File 028 · Fort Worden · Port Townsend, WA
Fort Worden
Constructed between 1898 and 1904 as the command anchor of Puget Sound’s formidable "Triangle of Fire," Fort Worden guarded Admiralty Inlet with heavy disappearing guns and subterranean concrete labyrinths. Behind its coastal views lies a record of fatal artillery counterweight crushes, 30-foot hoist falls during blackout maneuvers, the 1918 influenza outbreak, and documented casualties including Cpl. Henry Johnson and Capt. Frank Thornton. The Boo Crew investigates the unlit magazines of Battery Kinzie, the Officer's Row quarters, and the grounds of Alexander's Castle to determine if the voices trapped in the concrete are residual echoes or intelligent military watches standing down.
